Weather - Flood situation in Bavaria remains tense
Thaw and rain: The flood situation remains tense in parts of Bavaria. Experts expect water levels to continue to rise, particularly on the Danube and south of it, according to the Bavarian Flood Information Service on Tuesday. The German Weather Service also warned of thawing weather in the east and in the Alpine region, which has already lasted for several days. In addition, there would be heavy rainfall, especially in the Allgäu region.
According to the flood information service, the Danube is a kind of border: while the risk of flooding is expected to decrease in the north, water levels to the south could reach reporting level 3. This is expected to happen again on the Vils in Lower Bavaria, among other places. The entire Danube is also showing a rising flood tendency, and in some places reporting level 3 may also be exceeded here - this means that individual built-up properties or cellars may be flooded and local traffic routes may have to be closed.
On the other hand, less rain is expected north of the Danube over the next few days. "The flood waves can run off there," said a spokesperson for the flood information service. In the Main catchment area, the water levels are falling, and only isolated minor floods are expected on the Franconian Saale. The situation is similar for many other bodies of water north of the Danube, including the Isar, Vils and Paar.
Despite the risk of flooding, according to several control centers in Bavaria, there have only been minor call-outs so far, including for water in cellars.
The DWD is warning of storms and rain in the Alps and especially in the Allgäu until Wednesday. There are to be several rain and sleet showers on Wednesday. On Thursday, highs will drop to between three and eight degrees. While it will rain lightly in many places, it will snow in the Alps. The snow line will drop to 800 meters on Friday. Showers are forecast in the south-east and in the Alps with maximum temperatures of seven degrees.
