Weather - Flood situation in Bavaria continues

The flood situation in Bavaria continues. Levels are expected to rise again in the coming days, particularly on the Danube and south of the Danube, according to a spokesperson for the flood information service on Tuesday morning. In the Alps and especially in the Allgäu region, the German Weather Service (DWD) continues to warn of heavy thaws in some areas.

Bavaria is currently divided into two parts with regard to the flood situation, explained the HND spokesman. North of the Danube, less rain is expected over the next few days. "The flood waves can run off there." South of the Danube, on the other hand, the rainfall is expected to be heavier. Some water levels are then also expected to rise again due to the thaw, in some cases they could reach reporting level 3. From this level upwards, individual built-up properties or cellars could be flooded and local traffic routes could be closed. In some cases, it may also be necessary to deploy water or dam weirs.

The DWD warns of thaw and rainstorms in the Alps and especially in the Allgäu region until Wednesday. There will be heavy rainfall in places on Tuesday. Rain will also fall at times in Swabia and Upper Bavaria, moving on to Franconia from midday. In addition, it will be windy again at six to eleven degrees, with some peaks experiencing heavy gusts of wind of up to 100 kilometers per hour.

On Wednesday, meteorologists expect repeated rain and sleet showers with similarly mild temperatures, and a sleet storm is also possible. On Thursday, there will be light rain and snow in the Alps with slightly colder temperatures of three to eight degrees. On Friday, the snow line will fall to 800 to 1000 meters, with rain in some areas and temperatures of two to seven degrees.
