- Flight on women's bikes after jewellery store robbery trial
One has already been convicted, two more men are now on trial: Following a robbery at a jewelry store in the city center of Hannover, there is another trial. The trial will take place on Wednesday (8:45 AM) for attempted murder, with two men aged 19 and 23 on trial, as announced by the Regional Court of Hannover. According to the court, the 19-year-old allegedly robbed the store together with a previously convicted accomplice and shot at the jeweler, while the 23-year-old is said to have recruited the two men for the robbery. The 20-year-old accomplice was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention in February.
On July 11, 2023, the two younger men allegedly smashed the display cases of the jewelry store with a hammer, looted it, and shot and seriously injured the 39-year-old employee - in broad daylight. The perpetrators escaped with women's bicycles, taking with them various gold chains.
Ten trial days are planned
The alleged accomplice, who had fled abroad in the meantime, surrendered about seven months later. The police arrested the accomplice about two months after the robbery. In total, ten trial days are planned, and a verdict could be reached by this schedule on October 30.
The convicted perpetrator claimed in the trial that he knew nothing about the weapon of his accomplice - but the chamber did not believe him. At the latest after the first shot of his accomplice, he accepted that someone could be killed - and he didn't care, the judge said at the time. He was convicted of attempted murder in conjunction with, among other things, dangerous bodily harm and particularly serious robbery.
Victim threw trash can at attacker
The chamber considered a threat from a higher-up. He himself had said in the trial that he felt pressured to participate in the robbery.
The victim said at the time that there wasn't much going on in the store that day. Then someone shouted "hands up", he saw a man with a weapon in his hand, the other had a hammer. He pressed the alarm button and threw a trash can at the attackers. Then he was shot. The projectile injured several blood vessels, the intestine, a kidney, and two vertebrae.
The trial for the two young men involved in the jewelry store robbery and attempted murder will take place at the Court of First Instance, as announced by the Regional Court of Hannover. After their arrest and Surrender, ten trial days have been planned, and a verdict could potentially be reached by October 30.
