handball - Flensburg's handball team wins clearly against Melsungen

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt has won the duel in the handball Bundesliga. The team of SG coach Nicolej Krickau defeated MT Melsungen 34:24 (18:14) on Friday and pushed the visitors out of third place in the table. Flensburg now have 22:6 points, Melsungen 22:8. In front of 6300 spectators in the sold-out Flensburg Arena, Lasse Möller was the hosts' best scorer with ten goals. Erik Balenciaga scored six goals for MT.

Both teams were able to rely on their goalkeepers right from the start. Flensburg's Kevin Möller and Melsungen's Nebojsa Simic made strong saves. The lead changed back and forth several times. The SG was 8:6 in front in the 10th minute and MT 12:10 in the 20th. The Flensburg side then pulled away to a four-goal lead at the break with an intermediate spurt that was aided by a number of mistakes by Melsungen.

After the break, the club from North Hesse was no longer able to keep up with the pace and intensity of Flensburg. Lasse Möller increased the lead to seven goals for the first time in the 44th minute to make it 26:19. That was the decider and the home side extended its impressive run against Melsungen. It was the North Germans' 31st victory in the 37th encounter between the two teams.
