Bundesliga - Flensburg advances to the quarter-finals of the Handball Cup

Handball Bundesliga team SG Flensburg-Handewitt has reached the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. The team in third place in the table won 37:29 (18:15) against Bundesliga rivals Bergischer HC on Wednesday. Emil Jakobsen and Johan Hansen were the most successful scorers for the North Germans in front of 4131 spectators with six goals each. Linus Arnesson, Eloy Morante Maldonado and Lukas Stutzke scored five goals each for the BHC.

The visitors, decimated by injuries and illness, tried to take the tempo out of the game. To do so, they played with a seventh outfield player early on. Flensburg only gradually got into their stride. They extended their lead from 11:8 (18th minute) to 16:12 (26th minute).

With goalkeeper Benjamin Buric providing strong support, the SG's lead continued to grow. The BHC had great problems finishing off its attacks successfully. When left winger August Pedersen made it 33:23 in the 53rd minute, the Flensburg side had opened up a ten-goal gap for the first time.

Simon Pytlick was back in the Flensburg squad for the first time after a seven-week break due to a foot injury. However, the Danish world champion did not play. The quarter-final matches will be drawn on Thursday. The round of the best eight teams will then be played on February 3 and 4 next year.
