Process - Flatmates allegedly tortured roommate
Two men and two women allegedly beat, tortured and humiliated a flatmate for weeks. She died in hospital - according to the investigation, from the serious injuries inflicted. On Tuesday (9.30 a.m.), a trial for joint assault resulting in death begins at Cologne District Court - against four defendants aged between 28 and 34.
According to the indictment, the alleged perpetrators and the victim lived in a shared flat. After the woman separated from her partner, he allegedly beat and kicked her. The other flatmates are said to have taken part in the assaults. The victim is also said to have been harassed and humiliated. The woman is said to have had to beg for food and toilet visits. She was also allegedly punished if she did not follow instructions, the indictment states.
The woman was tortured for weeks from the end of April 2020. She was found during a police operation and taken to hospital. She died there in July 2020 from acute kidney failure, which is said to have been the result of the severe injuries she had previously suffered.
Twelve trial days have been scheduled for the trial until January 2024.
