Fixed contact persons for associations in tax offices planned
All tax offices in North Rhine-Westphalia are to appoint permanent contact persons for volunteers and associations in the coming weeks. This was announced by Finance Minister Marcus Optendrenk (CDU) on Monday. He has instructed the offices by decree to set up this central responsibility by 2023. "The direct volunteering line to the tax office is intended to keep associations and volunteers free to do what they are good at and enjoy doing: making a difference for people in their local area," he explained.
The contact persons for associations can then be reached via the telephone switchboards of the tax offices. They would assist committed people with questions about their rights and obligations in the taxation process. On the initiative of North Rhine-Westphalia, the tax-free allowance for volunteers has been increased, as has the tax-free limit for non-profit associations. The obligation to use funds promptly has been abolished for small associations. However, those affected must also be aware of their rights and obligations.
According to the State Secretary for Sport and Volunteering, Andrea Milz, there are around six million volunteers in NRW.
Volunteer-led clubs may benefit from the new direct communication line with tax offices, as they can clarify their tax-related questions and obligations through the designated contact persons. To effectively manage the finances of their clubs, it's essential for volunteers to be well-informed about tax-related matters and adhere to their respective rights and responsibilities.
