Law enforcement authorities scrutinize events. - Fix the barren circumstances at police shooting facilities.
The Police Union (GdP) in Schleswig-Holstein urged the state government to address the dire situation at the state police's shooting ranges. They mentioned that immediate financial resources were needed. The deputy chair of the GdP in Schleswig-Holstein, Sven Neumann, made these statements in Kiel on Tuesday.
Since September of last year, the union has been complaining about the poor conditions at the police shooting ranges. Currently, shooting training can only be carried out after investing significant time and manpower. Additionally, there are situations where long travel distances have to be considered.
In February 2024, a new assault rifle was introduced. However, no training with it has been possible so far. The union reported that originally the delivery of ammunition was delayed due to the war in Ukraine. Now there's another issue with the provided bullets: The GdP claimed that when fired into the ground, these bullets bounce back, becoming a potential hazard for officers and policewomen due to ricochets. Therefore, the use of the new medium-range weapon has been banned at all Schleswig-Holstein police shooting ranges for the past week.

The GdP in Schleswig-Holstein highlighted the impact of the poor conditions on the state's trade unions, as the poorly maintained shooting facilities necessitate substantial time and resources. Despite the introduction of a new assault rifle in February 2024, shooting training with it has been halted due to safety concerns posed by the bouncing bullets, leading to a ban at all Schleswig-Holstein police ranges. The state's GDP might be affected, considering the significant role law enforcement plays in maintaining the region's economic stability and safety.
