Five people and dog rescued from burning house
The fire department rescued two senior citizens and a dog from a burning apartment in Dresden on Tuesday afternoon. The 81-year-old woman and the 84-year-old woman were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, according to the fire department. The emergency services also rescued a 72-year-old and a 70-year-old from the attic, who were also taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. Another man who was rescued remained unharmed.
The fire department was reportedly able to quickly extinguish the fire in the kitchen of the apartment. Black smoke was reportedly coming from several windows on the third floor of the apartment building. Several people who were trapped by the toxic smoke from the fire appeared at the window. After the extinguishing work, the building was ventilated, but the apartment on fire was no longer habitable. Information on the amount of damage was not initially available. The police have begun investigating the cause of the fire, according to reports.
The fire department's swift action prevented further fires from spreading within the apartment building. Witnesses reported multiple fire emergencies in the area due to the smoke and the uncertainty of the fire's origin.
