Hours of lockdown - Five injured in accident on A5

At an accident on Autobahn 5 in the Ortenau district, five people were lightly injured, among them an eleven-year-old child. A driver, according to police reports, lost control of his vehicle on the wet road early on a Sunday morning due to high speed. The car of the 44-year-old came to a stop on the left lane of A5 near Achern. The lightly injured driver got out of his car and ensured his safety.

Five people with light injuries taken to hospitals

A short time later, a 36-year-old driver, according to police, recognized the car too late and collided with it. The car of the 36-year-old also skidded and hit a third car on the middle lane. The drivers, the 44-year-old passenger, and an eleven-year-old child in the third car were also lightly injured. An ambulance took the accident victims to nearby hospitals.

According to the police, the damage caused by the accident was estimated to be approximately 80,000 Euro. The "debris field" stretched for about 300 meters on all lanes over the road. The A5 was closed according to police reports for approximately four hours. The investigation continued.
