Western Pomerania-Rügen - Five injured in accident: driver probably fell asleep

Five people were injured, three of them seriously, in an accident on the A20 highway on Saturday night. A 21-year-old man crashed his car into a Polish van between Tribsees and Grimmen-West (Vorpommern-Rügen), according to the police. The force of the collision was reportedly so strong that the van was thrown off the highway and landed 150 meters away in a field. The police assume that the 21-year-old had briefly fallen asleep at the wheel.

The young man as well as the 55-year-old driver of the other car and his 61-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Two other passengers in the van, aged 47 and 61, suffered minor injuries. One lane of traffic was maintained at the scene of the accident in the direction of the Uckermark junction.
