Accident - Five injured due to leakage of a toxic substance

Five people were injured at a logistics center in Bottrop due to the release of a toxic substance. A forklift driver, according to a fire department spokesperson, damaged a barrel during unloading of a truck on a Monday evening, causing the dangerous substance to leak and spreading corrosive fumes in the hall.

Five employees of the logistics center suffered respiratory irritations and were taken to the hospital. The forklift driver moved the damaged barrel outside to prevent further spread.

Firefighters ventilated the hall to remove the toxic fumes. The operation lasted until late at night.

After the accident at the logistics center, a forwarding agency was contacted to handle the emergency shipment of replacement barrels to Bottrop from North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite the accident causing disruptions, the logistics center aimed to resume operations as soon as possible to minimize losses. Following the incident, strict safety protocols regarding the handling of hazardous materials were reinforced among the employees.
