- Five injured by carbon monoxide in Wiesbaden apartment building
In a residential building in Wiesbaden, several people were injured by carbon monoxide. A woman was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, a fire department spokesperson said. Elevated carbon monoxide levels were found in four other residents during subsequent checks, and they were also taken to the hospital.
Rescue services had already registered elevated levels in the building's hallway upon arrival, the spokesperson said. As a result, the entire building was evacuated, and all 29 residents were examined by emergency services. Since the cause was initially unclear, the gas supply was also shut off.
The incident brings to mind a case from about a month ago: In the Wiesbaden district of Kostheim, a 17-year-old died from carbon monoxide poisoning in early July. She was found unconscious under the shower in an apartment and later died in the hospital. According to earlier statements from the fire department, the gas boiler in the bathroom was likely defective, which could have led to the very high concentration of carbon monoxide.
The residential building where the incident occurred is located in the German state of Hessen, specifically in Wiesbaden. The unfortunate incident in Kostheim, also in Wiesbaden, Hessen, involved a 17-year-old who died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
