Soccer - Five facts ahead of RB Leipzig's game in Bremen
Emil Forsberg will once again take center stage in the last game of the year this Tuesday (18:30/Sky) at Werder Bremen. Leipzig coach Marco Rose has even held out the prospect of a starting appearance for the Swede in his 325th competitive game in an RB shirt. "If Emil is up for it, then there's no reason why he shouldn't start again."
Bremen, who are 14th in the Bundesliga table after the 2-2 draw in Gladbach, have "stabilized in recent weeks" according to coach Ole Werner. The upward trend is not yet reflected in points. They are five points clear of the relegation places - Werder will most likely spend the winter in the danger zone.
Leipzig want to use the momentum from Forsberg's farewell gala. Even if Lois Openda made little impact against Hoffenheim and Xavi Simons failed to score after his shot inside the post. The two strikers will have to compete with the in-form duo of Marvin Ducksch and Rafael Borré in Bremen. Or Forsberg will once again make the difference.
The statistics clearly speak in favor of RB. In twelve league duels, Leipzig have won nine and drawn one. Bremen have lost their last three home games against the Saxons by 2:9 goals. Werder's last win came in 2019 (2:1).
Bremen will see a reunion with former players Anthony Jung, who played for RB Leipzig from 2013 until their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016. Leipzig's former playmaker Naby Keita also moved to the Weser in the summer after leaving RB for Liverpool for a fee of €60 million in 2018.
