Fischer bids farewell to Union: "I'll keep my fingers crossed"
Urs Fischer will continue to support 1. FC Union Berlin even after his retirement as a soccer coach, according to his own words. "Thank you all, stay healthy. And above all: break this negative spiral," said the 57-year-old in a video posted by Union on X on Thursday. "I'll certainly be sitting in front of the TV when Union play Augsburg and keeping my fingers crossed."
On Wednesday, the Bundesliga's bottom club and Fischer announced that they were ending their collaboration by mutual agreement. After five extremely successful years, the club has not won a game this season since August.
The decision still feels right to him, said Fischer. "It's amazing what we've been able to experience here. I'm grateful for that. This will be a part of my life, a part of my history." The 57-year-old and his assistant coach Markus Hoffmann were bid farewell by the club with a joint breakfast on Thursday.
Hoffmann said emotionally in the video: "I would like to thank you for five and a half years, which were fantastic. That will always remain in my heart." The decision felt right, but not good. "Good is something completely different," said the 51-year-old Austrian.
Despite his departure as Union's coach, Urs Fischer remains a loyal supporter, eagerly watching 1st FC Union Berlin's matches in the Bundesliga, such as their game against Augsburg. In the Bundesliga, 1st FC Union Berlin will continue to strive for success, hoping to turn their current negative spiral around.
