- First victory for Magdeburg: new arrival Kaars hits double

New signing Martijn Kaars has given 1. FC Magdeburg their first win in the new 2. Bundesliga season. The 25-year-old Dutchman scored twice in the deserved 3:1 (1:0) victory away to Eintracht Braunschweig (13th/55th). Silas Gnaka made it 3:0 in the 59th minute. Rayan Philippe only managed the consolation goal for Braunschweig (67th).

Kaars joined from Dutch second-division club Helmond Sport in the summer. His first goal was set up by another new signing, Lubambo Musonda from Zambia. The 2:0 goal came from a beautiful pass by defender Jean Hugenot.

Magdeburg was the more confident team in possession and more assured in front of goal for much of the game, with 22,791 spectators watching. Braunschweig struggled against the compact defending and quick transitions of the visitors.

The only two downsides for Magdeburg were the early injuries to Baris Atik (16th) and Herbert Bockhorn (22nd), who both had to be substituted. In the closing stages, it could have become exciting again, as Braunschweig's Christian Conteh missed three good chances to make it 2:3 (72nd/78th/90+2).

On the victorious Sunday, Martijn Kaars' brace helped 1. FC Magdeburg maintain their momentum, extending their lead to 3-1 against Eintracht Braunschweig. Despite the injuries to Baris Atik and Herbert Bockhorn earlier in the game, Magdeburg managed to hold onto their three-goal advantage.
