Drama Performance - First performance of Holzinger's opera takes place in Schwerin.
Known for her mind-blowing shows centered around naked performers, Florentina Holzinger, a well-known performance artist, is introducing opera to her repertoire. Her three-hour performance titled "Sancta" will first be staged on Thursday at 19:30 at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin. "Sancta Susanna," a one-act opera by Paul Hindemith, and a church mass staged as a spectacle by Holzinger herself will be part of this production.
Following the premiere in Schwerin, the exhibition will move on to the Vienna Festwochen in mid-June. Other venues include Stuttgart and Berlin in the fall. Attendance is limited to individuals aged 18 years and older.
In the theater world, Holzinger has been a disrupter for many years with her performances that boldly and freely portray female bodies, incorporate taxing stunts, and have no qualms about trash. Born in 1986, this choreographer has been associated with the Berlin Volksbühne since 2021. Her show "Ophelia's Got Talent" at Volksbühne is what earned her a German Theater Prize, Der Faust, in the Dance category in 2023. Holzinger's creativity has also been recognized in her native Austria.
