Soccer - First goal after 18 minutes: Dream debut for Milan talent

Nuertingen-born Jan-Carlo Simic of AC Milan has made a brilliant debut in the Italian Serie A at the age of 18. The central defender, who trained at VfB Stuttgart, came on as a 24th-minute substitute in Sunday's home match against AC Monza and scored 18 minutes later to make it 2-0 (42') for the nine-time European Cup winners.

Simic transferred from VfB's U19 team to Milan's youth academy in the summer of 2022. He already played parts of the pre-season preparations with the professional squad before this season. His Serie A debut came about because Milan have had major injury problems for weeks. In central defense alone, five of six defenders are currently out - including German international Malick Thiaw.

Simic has been playing for the Serbian junior national team since the U17s. In the long term, however, he could still decide to play for the senior team of his native Germany. The talented defender has a German passport.
