- First close-knit victory: Nürnberger 3-1 comeback against Schalke
Miroslav Klose celebrated his first win as a coach in the 2. Bundesliga with the 1. FC Nuremberg, staging a remarkable comeback against FC Schalke 04 with a 3:1 victory in the second matchday. The World Cup winner of 2014 benefited from a temporary numerical advantage after Schalke's Ron Schallenberg was shown a red card in added time of the first half.
Klose's team turned the game around in the one-man advantage situation, with goals from Lukas Schleimer (47th minute) and Caspar Jander (56th). However, Jander, the goal scorer, also received a red card (66th). But Klose's 19-year-old substitute Rafael Lubach sealed the 3:1 win (77th) in front of 50,000 spectators.
In the first half, Schalke had dominated but only managed to score once, through defender Ibrahima Cisse (45th). For Nuremberg, it was their first points after a 2:3 loss in Karlsruhe. Schalke failed to build on their 5:1 win against Braunschweig.
As usual, fans of both clubs celebrated their fan friendship in the sold-out Max-Morlock-Stadion. The game was a rollercoaster ride for Klose, the teams, and the audience. At half-time, Schalke looked like the sure winners, but their lead was too narrow. Janik Bachmann missed a header against the alert FCN goalkeeper Jan Reichert, among other chances.
After the thrilling victory, Miroslav Klose expressed his gratitude to the supportive Bavarian crowd, acknowledging their significant role in the team's comeback victory over Schalke 04. Later, during an interview, he mentioned that his team's next target was to maintain their form in Bavaria, aiming for more victories.
