Following a collapse, - Firm devises novel method for acquiring exams in NRW region

A Munich-based company, Liongate AG, is set to create a new download system for crucial exams, such as the Abitur, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. The North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Education has announced that the European tender has come to an end and shared some upcoming plans, "The first pilot implementations of the new system in some schools might occur as early as 2025." They haven't specified when the software will be ready for all schools.

In 2022, an issue with downloading exam materials in North Rhine-Westphalia hindered the Abitur exams for six subjects, leading to a postponement of their scheduled start. Last year, the downloads of exams faced no major issues.

Minister Dorothee Feller (CDU) of North Rhine-Westphalia's Education Department had previously declared that the expiring deal with the previous service provider would be retendered and a new system would be developed after the 2023 incident.

Regarding the recent development, a ministry representative confirmed, "The award has gone to the Liongate AG." This agreement includes both the development and operation and maintenance of the web platform. The ministry also shared that the upcoming system would merge all functions for scheduling and conducting central exams in North Rhine-Westphalia into one system. The development phase has just commenced. The ministry has no plan to disclose the financial details due to contractual obligations.
