- Firefighters save man from drowning
Firefighters rescued a man from the Ruhr river near Bochum after he was at risk of drowning. The man had gone into the Ruhr near the Koster bridge in Hattingen on Saturday evening with two companions. He went under the water a few meters from the shore and did not resurface. The firefighters searched the water and found him submerged shortly after. They pulled him to shore and he was taken to an ambulance where paramedics and a doctor began CPR.
The man was then taken to a specialized clinic in Bochum while still receiving CPR. Other rescue workers, a doctor, and a crisis counselor were on hand to support his companions.
The firefighters' quick response in the incident was commendable, as they are also equipped and trained for firefighting situations if required. Upon the man's arrival at the clinic, the medical team continued with firefighters' CPR techniques to ensure his best chance of recovery.
