Authorities are examining the case. - Firefighters rescue children left in a vehicle.

A couple from a nearby state, Brandenburg, left their young ones in their vehicle while they attended the Immergut music festival in Neustrelitz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Neubrandenburg Police Department revealed on Monday that a passerby noticed the two youngsters locked in a car parked on a lot around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday and alerted the police. The kids were whimpering and hysterical.

As neither parent was present, the fire department, in conjunction with the police, smashed a car window to free the children. They were then given medical attention and comforted on the spot, according to their statement. Information about the children's ages was not provided.

The 60-year-old father tracked down his kids at the event and collected them. According to the police, their mother had already left the festival several hours prior, without her children. It remains unknown how long the two children endured being alone in the locked vehicle. The father maintained he'd been with his children until they drifted off to sleep and returned to their car each time briefly.

The Immergut music festival organizer kicked the father out for this incident, the police notified local social services, and an investigation was initiated regarding neglect of childcare and education responsibilities. The police concluded that the man wasn't intoxicated or under any substances.
