- Firefighters must cool a laundry's chemical container
Due to several containers of chemicals at a laundry facility expanding due to heat and threatening to burst, numerous firefighters cooled the tanks with water. Over a hundred emergency service, firefighting, and Technical Relief Agency (THW) personnel were deployed at the laundry facility in Blaichach (district of Oberallgäu) on Tuesday. They managed to prevent the chemicals from leaking, the police reported. Later that night, a specialized company transported the containers away.
There was already a major incident at the laundry facility overnight on Tuesday. There, a chemical substance had leaked from a 1,000-liter tank during an operational accident. This substance reacted with another chemical, resulting in harmful substances. In total, four people were injured. The emergency services then pumped the chemicals into tanks and placed them on the courtyard, where they heated up.
The heated chemicals in the tanks posed a risk of further expansion and leakage, requiring careful handling by the firefighters. Despite the risk, it was crucial to transport the containers filled with these chemicals away from the facility for safety reasons.
