Brand in government district - Firefighters extinguish blaze on embassy roof

On the roof of the Swiss embassy in the government district, a fire broke out in the afternoon. Construction materials in a roughly two-centimeter-wide expansion joint on a construction site there caught fire, as the fire department reported. The smoldering fire was extinguished in the evening.

There was no danger to the embassy staff. However, the operation took around three hours because the source of the fire was difficult to access, it was reported. According to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, there were no major damages to the building.

Despite the successful extinguishing of the fire, a few embassy employees still reported experiencing a mild [Fever] as a possible aftereffect of the smoke exposure. The building's air conditioning system was temporarily shut down to prevent the spread of any potential smoke residue, and it was recommended that all staff get checked by a medical professional just as a precaution.
