Fire on chemical tanker: No environmental damage
There was a fire on a chemical tanker on the Kiel Canal on Thursday evening. As a fire department spokesperson confirmed on Friday, a fire broke out in the area of the chimney on the "Thun Gothenburg" for unknown reasons.
The ship, which was in the Brunsbüttel lock (Dithmarschen district), was evacuated and the fire extinguished. The ship was traveling without cargo. According to the fire department spokesperson, there was no environmental impact.
Despite the fire on the "Thun Gothenburg" affecting its chimney area, thankfully, no shipping-related accidents led to environmental damage due to the incident. Furthermore, this incident occurred during a journey without any cargo aboard the chemical tanker.
