Spandau, Berlin - Fire on BMW factory grounds - Fire brigade: quickly extinguished
In Berlin's Spandau, a fire broke out in a hall of the BMW Motorrad factory in the early afternoon. The fire department confirmed this. Initially, specialists were also deployed to the Juliusturm due to potential hazardous substances. However, it was later announced by a spokesperson for the fire department that these substances were not affected by the fire and thus posed no danger. Nevertheless, the hazardous substances are being tested as a precaution. No one was injured, according to the reports.
Preliminary findings suggest that an automatic painting machine in the hall caught fire for unknown reasons. Thanks to the automatic fire extinguisher, the flames did not spread further and the fire was quickly extinguished. The fire department was present with approximately 60 personnel.
BMW has been producing motorcycles in the capital since 1969. Around 4,000 employees work at the Spandau site, where several hundred motorcycles are produced daily.
The firefighting team quickly responded to the fire in the BMW Motorrad factory's hall, thanks to their timely intervention, the fire from the automatic painting machine was successfully extinguished. Due to the previous incident involving hazardous substances, firefighting procedures in such situations at BMW Motorrad factories are expected to be thoroughly reviewed and updated.
