- Fire on a Navy barge off Warnemünde
In a fire involving a naval launch off Warnemünde, two crew members were lightly injured. The cause of the afternoon fire is still unknown, according to a naval spokesperson. The approximately 10-meter-long and 3-meter-wide boat is back at the Warnemünde station since the early evening and will now be investigated.
The Rostock Water Police were informed around 4:00 PM about the boat, fully engulfed in flames, about 1.5 nautical miles off the coast, as a spokesperson reported. The fire department extinguished the fire. A report for reckless endangerment has been filed.
According to the naval spokesperson, the launch belongs to the Warnemünde station and was supposed to assist during the Hanse Sail event, which begins on Thursday. The German Navy traditionally participates in this maritime festival. Among others, the sail training ship "Gorch Fock" is present in Warnemünde and can be visited.
The boat involved in the fire was a marine launch from the Warnemünde station. The marine rescue operation was coordinated by both the naval authorities and the Rostock Water Police.
