In the Saarland town of Völklingen, a burning warehouse has sparked a major response. As a police spokeswoman reported on Thursday morning, a large cloud of smoke has developed due to the fire, visible for kilometers. The fire in the Thyssenkrupp industrial conglomerate's warehouse broke out early in the morning.

The building is located in an industrial park in the Furstenhausen district, which is on the edge of a residential area, the police spokeswoman explained. Due to the smoke, residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed. So far, there are no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently unknown.

The fire department has declared an emergency due to the intense fire in the warehouse. Residents living nearby were urged to stay aware of any emergency updates due to the smoke.
