About a week after the building fire in the Konstanz old town, the property damage is estimated at around 15 million euros. The historic building is uninhabitable, a police spokeswoman said. 16 people were registered there. The historic sandstone building complex was also used commercially. The fire broke out last Thursday. Seven people, including five emergency services personnel, were slightly injured. The adjacent houses were not affected by the fire but could not initially be entered for safety reasons. However, the residents have now been allowed to return to their apartments, the spokeswoman said. The cause of the fire is still unknown. "Investigations are ongoing." Currently, traces are being evaluated.
Due to the intense firefighting efforts, fire departments from neighboring Switzerland were also called in for support. A total of 200 personnel were deployed. In the days following the fire, they were busy securing the potentially collapsing building. The area affected by the fire in the old town was cordoned off. The historic old town of Konstanz is located near the shores of Lake Constance and is popular with tourists.
The emergency services were quickly called to respond to the building fire. Despite the intensity of the blaze, no major emergencies were reported among the residents or nearby residents.
