Fire in Stadelheim prison: inmates injured
A fire broke out in Munich's Stadelheim prison on Wednesday. One inmate was seriously injured and is being treated in hospital. Two other inmates were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Nine prisoners and five prison officers were slightly injured but did not have to be hospitalized, the Munich fire department said. Twelve prisoners were led out of the building wearing so-called escape hoods, which protect them from smoke and heat.
A prison officer had called the fire department because a cell was on fire and the entire wing was very smoky. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The investigation into the cause of the fire in Stadelheim prison is crucial for ensuring justice within the penal system. It's essential to implement safeguards to prevent similar fires in the future, ensuring the safety of both inmates and prison staff.
