Fires - Fire in residential facility for senior citizens: Woman seriously injured

At a fire in a care home in Könnern northwest of Halle, a woman was severely injured. She was taken to a hospital on Saturday due to burns, as the Integrated Control Room Salzlandkreis reported. At least 50 people were evacuated to safety.

The entire roof structure of the multi-family house was on fire, according to reports. The fire department was on site with a large contingent. On Saturday afternoon, the firefighting teams were still occupied with final extinguishing efforts, but the fire was under control.

The cause of the fire was initially unclear. According to reports, a warning was issued due to heavy smoke development in the city area. Several media had reported on this beforehand.

In the aftermath of the fire, authorities are now considering relocating the affected seniors to a residential facility in nearby Saxony-Anhalt. Despite the incident, the woman's condition remains serious and she continues to receive medical care in a Germany-based hospital. Unfortunately, this isn't the first instance of fires at residential facilities for seniors in Germany, raising concerns about safety measures and precautions.
