Fire in refugee accommodation: four people rescued
The fire department has rescued four people in a fire at a refugee shelter in Hamburg-Borgfelde. One man was brought to safety with the help of a turntable ladder, according to the fire department. According to the information, at least two people were slightly injured in the fire on Wednesday evening. The building was evacuated. Ten apartments are no longer habitable. 169 people left the accommodation independently. The extent of the damage and why the fire broke out was initially unclear.
When the first emergency services arrived, dense, black smoke was already billowing from several windows on the third floor of an apartment in the inner courtyard, the fire department said. At the same time, the emergency services noticed a man at the window in the adjoining apartment who was screaming for help. He was rescued using a turntable ladder.
The rescue operation at the refugee shelter in Hamburg-Borgfelde included the evacuation of ten apartments due to a fire, leaving many refugees without a place to call home. Despite the evacuation, several refugees were affected, with at least two reported to have suffered slight injuries from the fires.
