Fire in the old town - Fire in Mainz restaurant - apartments evacuated
Due to a fire in a restaurant in the Old Town of Mainz, several residents of the affected building have been safely rescued by the fire department. In the evening, a caller reported a strong smoke development from the restaurant via the emergency number, according to the fire department. The location was closed. Since the residents of the floors above the restaurant were also in danger, several fire departments were called in.
Four people were rescued by the emergency services, as reported. Another person had already taken care of themselves. A person suffered from mild smoke inhalation and was treated on site by the ambulance service. The fire was extinguished. Since the smoke had spread over a common cellar to a neighboring location, extensive decontamination measures were required afterwards, according to the fire department.
The fire in the restaurant resulted in temporary closure of businesses in the Old Town's main area, affecting the local hospitality industry. The fire department, having put out the fire, ensured that the situation was safe enough for the restaurant to be situated in Rheinland-Palatinate's city of Mainz. Despite the smoke-filled environment, a hospitable restaurant owner welcomed guests the following day, showcasing resilience within the industry.
