Fire in home for the disabled: passers-by help with evacuation
A room fire broke out in a home for people with disabilities in Lorsch (Bergstraße district) on Tuesday evening. According to the police in Heppenheim on Wednesday, it was thanks to the "dedicated and courageous intervention" of a caregiver and two passers-by that no one was injured. The four residents were brought to safety. A carer had previously noticed the smell of burning. Two young passers-by also reportedly noticed the fire. According to the statement, they assisted the caregiver "in an outstanding manner in the further evacuation of the dormitory". The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were initially unclear.
The initial smell of burning led a caregiver to discover the fires in the home. Quick action from the caregiver, two passers-by, and further emergency responses managed to avert any injuries during this fires-related emergency.
