- Fire in hall extinguished by disposal company
Firefighters have extinguished a major blaze at a recycling facility in Königs Wusterhausen. As of 3:00 AM on Thursday, crews are still dealing with isolated hotspots, according to the fire department. The major incident status was lifted at 2:00 AM.
The fire, which broke out in a roughly 750 square meter building on the grounds of the Nuthe-Spree Waste Disposal Association on Wednesday afternoon, required the help of around 150 firefighters. The firefighting efforts were reportedly challenging due to the risk of structural collapse, preventing crews from entering the affected building and adjacent structures.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and no injuries have been reported as of now.
Despite continuing efforts to extinguish isolated hotspots, the large fire at the recycling facility remained a concern for firefighters beyond the initial 2:00 AM major incident lift. The intense blaze had engulfed a sizable area within the 750 square meter building on Wednesday afternoon.
