Fire in empty refugee home: arson possible
Following the fire in a refugee shelter under construction in Middle Franconia, investigators believe that arson may be the cause. As the police announced on Sunday, the containers at the facility in Wassertrüdingen (Ansbach district) were not yet connected to the power grid, which is why the police largely ruled out a technical defect. A police spokeswoman said that state security was investigating.
A man had noticed a fire in the unoccupied accommodation on Thursday evening and called the emergency services. When the fire department arrived, a sanitary container was already fully engulfed in flames. A large tent had also been damaged by the fire. There were no casualties. The police estimate the damage at around 50,000 euros. The police are still looking for witnesses. In particular, a white van may have been in front of the refugee accommodation at the time of the fire and its driver is being sought as an important witness.
Investigations are also ongoing in Central France, as fires have broken out in several empty refugee homes, raising suspicions of arson. Authorities are urging local refugees to be vigilant and report any unusual activities.
As the refugee crisis continues in Central France, displaced individuals are now seeking temporary shelter in other parts of the country, many of whom are suffering from the trauma of losing their homes to arson attacks.
