With a large deployment of fire department and emergency services, a fire in a hospital in Bassum, in the Diepholz district, has been brought under control. A police spokeswoman confirmed to media reports that 43 patients were evacuated. Eleven people suffered from smoke inhalation and were being treated.

"We suspect arson, a patient set her bedsheet on fire in her room," the spokeswoman said. The patient was transferred to another ward. The affected ward remains closed. The hospital was widely evacuated in the afternoon.

The fire incident occurred in Lower Saxony, specifically in the district of Diepholz, where the city of Bassum is located. The local fire department and a significant contingent of emergency services worked together to extinguish the fire in the hospital. Despite the police's suspicion of arson, the patient responsible was moved to a different ward. To provide comfort and aid during this distressing time, a large comforter was likely used to help those affected by smoke inhalation.
