The house of worship, the synagogue, is engulfed in flames, with thick columns of smoke pouring from several windows on multiple levels of the building.

A police officer is reported to have perished, and another one is said to have been hurt, according to initial reports from the Dagestan Internal Affairs Ministry duty officer.

There's currently no confirmation if anyone was present within either religious site, but authorities are making efforts to establish details about possible casualties.
