Fires - Fire destroys detached house: five injured
A detached house caught fire in Schmalkalden on Tuesday and was badly damaged. Five people who lived in the house were injured by the fire, the police said. They were taken to hospital as a precaution with suspected smoke inhalation. The second floor of the house had collapsed.
A total loss or damage in the six-figure euro range is expected, said a police spokesman. The fire broke out early in the morning and the extinguishing work took around four hours.
According to the information provided, the fire did not spread to neighboring houses in the Wernshausen district. Residents in the immediate vicinity had been asked by the central control center to keep their doors and windows closed due to the smoke. The cause of the fire is still unknown, said the police spokesman. Investigations are ongoing.
