Storm in Bad Salzuflen - Fire department rescues people from houses
The first thundercell, according to reports, was relatively harmless, but the second one around 3:00 AM at night had considerable strength. It passed over the areas of Wüsten, Ehrsen-Breden and Retzen, where water masses pushed up manhole covers and flooded streets and basements, causing damage to objects as stated. In some places, the water reached a height of 80 centimeters. The city utilities of Bad Salzuflen temporarily interrupted the power supply for several buildings to prevent danger to people.
In a residential house, stacked wood pellets in the basement expanded so much that cracks appeared in the facade. A special vehicle had to be called in to relieve the pressure by pumping out the mass. Two houses had to evacuate inhabitants who were trapped by the water. The fire department used diving pumps. In their balance, they reported on Sunday that the weather event had hit Wüsten as one of the most violent of the past decades.
