Fire department reporting "Extraordinary operational situation"

The district of Karlsruhe has been particularly hard hit by the storms. This was particularly noticeable for the firefighters. An emergency unit is in operation.

To coordinate storm response county-wide, the fire department** has declared an "exceptional deployment situation". County Fire Chief Jürgen Bordt from the county administration is leading the command post. "Additionally, various cities and municipalities have convened administrative staff and fire stations are continuously staffed," the Karlsruhe County Fire Department announced. The police also informed that the county administration has set up a crisis team.

As of midnight, firefighters had handled over 500 deployments, according to the county fire department. Around 300 more are still open, but "these are not time-critical." In total, several hundred people are involved in the response.

The current weather conditions have significantly contributed to the exceptional deployment situation declared by the fire department. Despite over 800 deployments, non-urgent incidents are being managed at a steady pace.
