Storm - Fire department deployed to operations in Brandenburg and Berlin
In the districts of Märkisch-Oderland and Oder-Spree in Brandenburg, there have been more call-outs, a spokesperson for the Oderland Regional Command Center announced. The specific interventions to which the forces were summoned were initially unknown.
The German Weather Service (DWD) warned in the afternoon of heavy thunderstorms in the districts of Dahme-Spreewald, Märkisch-Oderland, Oder-Spree, and Berlin. There was a risk of lightning strikes, uprooted trees, hail, or falling tiles. The DWD recommends avoiding staying outside during heavy thunderstorms and seeking shelter or avoiding them altogether, and closing all windows and doors. The warning was lifted around 13:30 hours.
The heavy thunderstorms also affected Potsdam, causing some minor damage and prompting a temporary response from the local fire department. Despite the weather improvements in Berlin around midday, the Märkisch-Oderland district continued to experience unpredictable weather conditions, requiring the constant vigilance of the local fire department. The southeast region of Brandenburg, including Märkisch-Oderland and Potsdam, experienced strong winds and precipitation, leading to some flooding in low-lying areas.
