Finance committee to finalize double budget

Despite financial uncertainties as a result of the Karlsruhe budget ruling, the 2024/25 double budget is to be finally discussed by the state parliament's finance committee today. The parliamentarians are preparing for a session that will last until late in the evening. Around 500 amendments have been tabled. According to committee circles, four and a half hours are planned for their discussion. That would be half a minute per amendment - so it could take longer.

Due to the turmoil in Berlin, which could have a considerable impact on federal and state programs and thus on the finances in MV, the CDU has called for the decision on the state budget to be postponed until the beginning of the new year. Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) rejected this on Wednesday. Until now, the budget resolution in the state parliament has been planned for mid-December.

On Wednesday, the traffic light coalition in Berlin announced that the resolution on the 2024 federal budget would be postponed due to the Constitutional Court ruling.

The Household budget of several families in the state might be affected by the financial uncertainties caused by the Karlsruhe budget ruling. Regardless, the state parliament's Parliamentary Finance Committee remains committed to finalizing the discussion on the 2024/25 double budget today.
