The European Continent - Final push for recruitment of election staff in Saarland

Approximately 10,000 election workers are required for the upcoming municipal and European elections on June 9th in Saarland, as per the state's election commissioner. Several cities and municipalities have already managed to find volunteers, either through advertising in the media or via their own administrative staff, and political parties have also contributed to the pool of election workers.

When asked about the situation, Andreas Bittner, the deputy election commissioner, stated to the German Press Agency that the level of volunteer work in Saarland is high, and there are no major concerns.

In Saarbrücken alone, they need around 1,800 voluntary and non-profit election workers. However, there are roughly 250 positions left to fill for both the primary and potential runoff elections for the election of the regional association director or the regional association director on June 23rd, a spokesperson shared. The city is now considering hiring their own employees to cover these vacancies.

On the day of the election in Saarbrücken, about 135,000 eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes. There are various positions up for grabs, including the 10th European Parliament, the Saarbrücken City Council, the representatives for the four Saarbrücken district councils, the regional assembly of the Saarbrücken Regional Association, the regional association director, or the regional association director.

Anyone interested in becoming an election worker must be eligible to vote in Saarbrücken, at least 18 years old, and either a German citizen or from any other European Union member state. Their residential status in Germany should be for at least three months.
