- Final determination of the charged manslaughter against cohabitant
The decision of the Local Court of Flensburg regarding a man who took a fellow resident's life with a head stab has been upheld. The Supreme Court of Justice dismissed the offender's appeal as baseless, as confirmed by the Local Court of Flensburg.
The man was given a nine-year prison sentence in February for manslaughter. He's accused of causing fatal harm to a housemate in an altercation on December 19, 2022, by forcefully piercing their skull with a knife. Despite urgently needed surgery, the individual passed away a few days later. Both the accused and the victim hailed from Somalia. The accused had initially vanished; he was captured in the French city of Lille nearly four weeks after the incident.
Courtroom turn of events in February
During the February hearing, there was a significant occurrence: The then 24-year-old accused chewed on shards of a razor blade and subsequently bled profusely on the floor. Nevertheless, he stayed conscious and was later taken to a hospital. As the accused rendered himself incapable of the trial, the hearing continued, and he was later returned to prison from the hospital that very night.
Whether it was a suicide attempt was at least uncertain at the time, according to court reports. A chat with the accused had transpired briefly prior, in which he appeared unremarkable. The possibility of incarceration had already been discussed due to the arguments presented.
The man's actions led to a serious case of manslaughter, classified as a form of crime. Despite the courtroom incident where he chewed on a razor blade, the trial for his crime continued and resulted in a nine-year imprisonment.
