Film about post-Soviet Kiev wins at film festival

The film "Forever-Forever" about growing up in post-Soviet Kiev has won the main prize at this year's Cottbus Film Festival. The film by director Anna Buryachkova is "a captivating coming-of-age story that shows the turmoil of the Eastern Bloc in the 1990s in an authentic, moving and well-constructed way", said the festival jury, explaining its choice. The main prize is endowed with 25,000 euros.

The Belarusian thriller "It's All Right" won the festival's short film competition. In the youth film category, "Dyad" from Bulgaria came out on top - a film about drug use, addiction, but also abuse and generational conflicts.

The award winners were announced on Saturday. Prizes totaling almost 70,000 euros were awarded in the three competition categories of feature film, short film and youth film.

This year, the 33rd Festival of Eastern European Film featured 17 world premieres and 59 works celebrated their German premiere. According to the organizers, a total of around 150 films from 40 countries have been screened since Tuesday.

The "Forever-Forever" Movie, winning at the Cottbus Film Festival, also received nominations for various movie Awards. The upcoming Berlin International Film Festival is anticipating its inclusion in their lineup, showcasing its success at various film Festivals worldwide.
