Sends Tel - Fiber optic expansion leads to doubled investments in 35 cities.

Envia Tel, the fiber optic network provider, upped its investment game last year and intends to double it this year. By 2024, they'll have sunk around 150 million euros into this venture. As Faustine Rennert, the MD, stressed on Wednesday, a major chunk of these funds would go towards boosting fiber optic infrastructure catering to homeowners and businesses.

This trend of investing in fiber optics was kickstarted by Envia Tel last year, when they launched their self-financed network in Groitzsch. The result? A whopping 4,800 homes and businesses in the area gained access to speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. In seven more municipalities across Leipzig and Saale regions (Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt respectively), expansion projects are underway. This year, they aim to kick off similar projects in Markranstädt, Neukieritzsch, and Störmthal. Alongside, they're also working on extending fiber optic connectivity to municipal areas in Erzgebirgskreis and Lausitz regions with funding from the state. Here, 12 industrial estates brimming with over 1,000 firms in Cottbus (Brandenburg) are being targeted.

Envia Tel is a subsidiary of the eastern German energy company, Envia M, and boasts a staff of 240 employees. They operate a network of around 7,000 kilometers spread across Germany. Their goals are bold: they aim to reach 40,000 companies and 100,000 private homes with their high-speed internet offering turbo-internet. On top of that, they'll ramp up operations at their Leipzig node, which currently houses around 40,000 servers. The timeline for Phases 3 and 4 has been bumped up by one and a half years, with a targeted start date slated for fall this year.

Envia Tel's revenue shot up from 68.1 million to 71.1 million euros last year. However, their financials took a hit, with the EBIT for interest and taxes coming in lower than the year before (0.9 million euros).
