Fewer serious injuries in road accidents in the country

In the first nine months of the year, significantly fewer people were seriously injured in road accidents in Rhineland-Palatinate than in the same period in previous years. With 2050 seriously injured people between January and September, the figure was at its lowest level in the last ten years, according to the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems on Friday.

In the first three quarters of the year, the police in Rhineland-Palatinate registered around 104,000 road accidents. This was around 4.7 percent more than in the same period last year, it said. In most accidents, around 93,000, nobody was injured. In the same period, 106 people died in road accidents in the state. That was one fewer person than in the first nine months of 2022.

Despite the increase in registered traffic accidents, the number of seriously injured individuals has decreased significantly, as shown in the statistics. This downward trend in severe injuries is particularly evident when comparing the first nine months of this year to the same period in the last decade.
