Fewer Postbank branches: job cuts as a result
The cuts in the Postbank branch network will lead to job cuts, according to Claudio de Sanctis, Deutsche Bank's Board Member for Private Customers. How many jobs will be affected by the reduction of the current 550 Postbank branches to around 300 by mid-2026 is the subject of discussions with employee representatives. "The fact is, however, that there is no way around this, even if our aim is to deploy employees in other functions wherever possible," de Sanctis, who is also responsible for Postbank, told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (F.A.S.).
He also wanted to lay the foundations for a growth and success story for the employees today - for the Deutsche Bank brand as well as for Postbank. "I have to act now," said the Board Member for Private Customers, who has been in office since July. "It would be much worse if we did nothing and ended up losing even more jobs. The employee representatives can't want that either." De Sanctis referred to internal evaluations according to which three quarters of Postbank customers hardly ever visit a branch.
In the view of the Board Member for Private Customers, Deutsche Bank's network of currently 400 branches is fundamentally set up correctly today, "even if I don't want to rule out adjustments".
The reduction of Postbank branches from 550 to around 300 will impact jobs at the banks. Deutsche Bank's Board Member for Private Customers, Claudio de Sanctis, emphasized that there is no avoiding this, despite efforts to reassign employees.
