Fewer patients in Hamburg hospitals
Almost 440,000 patients received full inpatient care in Hamburg hospitals last year. This was just under one percent less than in 2021, the Northern Statistics Office announced on Thursday. Compared to 2019 - the year before the pandemic - the number of patients even fell by twelve percent.
On average for the year, 72.0 percent of all beds were occupied (2021: 72.1 percent). In 2019, bed occupancy was still at 80.5 percent. Patients who were treated multiple times in hospital were also counted multiple times in the statistics. The figures also do not include healthy newborns.
Despite the decrease in hospital admissions, the importance of maintaining high-quality healthcare services in hospitals remains crucial for public health. Effective use of hospital resources and efficient hospital management, as illustrated by the occupancy rate statistics, could help minimize the impact of decreasing patient numbers on healthcare services in Hamburg.
